Today, she channels these passions into both her work and everyday life. Alongside her work as a freelance certified transcriptionist, she volunteers as a book reviewer and lives as a digital nomad.

Karin began her versatile career with a bachelor’s degree in business finance. Driven by a desire to make a positive impact, she combined her interest in fashion with purpose by working for an NGO that sold second-hand clothing to fund development projects in Africa. She also volunteered in Africa with the same organization. After several years, she returned to her financial background, establishing a career in B2B customer support with a focus on finance and administration, before moving on to financial audits and, later, documentation control combined with finance. Along the way, she developed a reputation for being highly organized, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator. Colleagues and clients alike have also valued her ability to make complex processes feel smooth and reliable. 

Travel has been a constant thread throughout Karin’s life. Her journeys have taken her across Asia, India, America, England, Scotland, and several European countries. But before truly globetrotting, she settled in the Netherlands after a vacation in Amsterdam, a city she fell in love with the moment she first set foot there.

Driven by her fascination with travel and her determination to make a real difference, Karin moved to San Martin in Peru, where she co-founded an NGO dedicated to protecting one of the planet’s most vital ecosystems: the Amazon rainforest. Living and working in such a unique environment deepened her appreciation of how closely nature, people, and culture are connected. She often reflects on the contrast between worlds: one day refining AI-generated transcripts with cutting-edge tools, the next stepping into remote villages where traditional ways of life are still deeply rooted. Karin sometimes jokes that in these moments she feels as if she’s visiting from the future.

It’s no surprise that transcription became her chosen path. Her love of language, her sharp ear for accents developed through years of travel and customer-facing roles, and her solid grounding in English grammar all come together in this work. For her, it’s not just about typing words on a page. It’s about capturing meaning, tone, and flow so the text feels alive and true to the speaker. As a freelancer, she values clear and friendly communication with her clients just as much as accuracy in her transcripts.
